Arthur Hallam Powell
Hal continued to operate the farm, joined by his son David when he became old enough. During the depression years, the Academy ended their subsidies to the farm and they ran the operation together as A.H. Powell and Son until Hal’s death. In 1934, David married Edith Kuhl and they lived in the farmhouse with David’s parents and the remaining siblings. David and Edith had a single child, Vera Louise Powell, born in 1936. In 1942, Hal suffered a heart attack while working in the orchard and died at home that night after refusing to be taken to the hospital.
